Therapy Approaches I Use in Trauma & Anxiety Treatment

No single therapy works for everyone.

People often come to therapy after trying to think their way through anxiety, patterns, or emotional reactions that don’t seem to change — even when they understand them. This is usually because different struggles live in different parts of the brain and nervous system. Insight alone cannot reach all of them.

My psychotherapy practice in Toronto is integrative, meaning I combine several evidence-based trauma therapies depending on what your system needs.

  • Some approaches help process memories.
  • Some regulate the nervous system.
  • Some work with protective patterns or parts of the self.

Together we choose the methods that actually match how your difficulties are operating, not just what they look like on the surface.

What This Means for You

Rather than fitting you into a single therapy model, treatment adapts over time. For example:

  • When reactions feel automatic → memory processing therapies help
  • When your body stays tense or shut down → somatic therapies help
  • When inner conflict or self-criticism dominates → parts-based therapy helps

This is how therapy moves from understanding a problem to actually changing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you use multiple therapy approaches?

Some therapies help process memories, some regulate the body, and others work with patterns or inner parts. Some clients connect easily with parts-based work, while others prefer a more body-focused or memory-processing approach. We choose approaches that fit both what you’re dealing with and what resonates with you.

Will we use all of the therapies listed?

Not necessarily. Therapy is tailored to you. We choose approaches based on what is maintaining your symptoms and adjust over time as your nervous system changes.

How do you decide which therapy to start with?

The starting point depends on your goals and how your system reacts. In the first few sessions we get to know what you’ve been dealing with and what feels manageable to work with. I’ll share recommendations, and we choose together what feels like the right place to begin.

Do I need to know which therapy I want before booking?

No, you don’t need to choose a modality in advance. Part of the first sessions is understanding your patterns and deciding together which approach fits best.
